PRESENTS

The Present-pages will come back next issue! Suggestions wanted! Please contact: office@stw2d.com

On the following 3 double pages are visual interpretations of one of our previous title themes ("of the wall") by selected artists.
This feature of streetwear today gives artists and creatives the opportunity and a canvas to let loose without the usual restrictions of public accessible work. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

TOFA: The conversion of skills and ideas into three dimensional forms is what Tofa does best. As computer based work is way too boring for him, he usually prefers to work “offline”. Tofa has a background in extreme sports, fashion design, illustration design, VJing, photography and street art. His art reflects all these different aspects and creates an interesting dialogue between the virtual, the digital and reality – real multitasking. His “OFF THE WALL” illustration portrays the psychological landscape of several travelling artists from Berlin and their impressions of the megalopolis Tokyo. Tofa’s interpretation captures the inspirational, mad, claustrophobic and disturbing nature of this place and its people. His “illusion”-fashion pages transfer the three-dimensional neon writing to a digital two-dimensional level without the aid of computers. The picture visualizes time and demolition and aims at pushing experimental fashion shots to another level. It creates the illusion of spraying on the wall and the movement “OFF THE WALL” by shot-at-once light-stunts. Instead of aggressively overwriting the scene the light respectfully emphasizes what was there and reinvents its potential; it elevates itself into space, creates a third dimension – “OFF THE WALL”.

DIRTY BANDITS: Good artists borrow. Great artists steal," is a quote by Pablo Picasso and the motto of Annica Lydenberg. She’s the founder and art director of the design agency Dirty Bandits, popular clients of which include Futura, Definitive Jux and Hektik Clothing. Apart from being influenced by artists like Robert Rauschenberg, Cindy Sherman and David Salle her work draws inspiration from WK Interact, Fafi and Dave Kinsey, who have motivated her to include items and concepts from her surroundings into her work. For us, Annica has made up her mind about what the claim “OFF THE WALL” means to her: “I have been borrowing from artists whose work I have seen ON THE WALL and aspiring to steal from the world OFF THE WALL for years. Gallery and museum walls have given me inspiration to work in layers, to mix mediums, and to be provocative.
But stealing from OFF THE WALL is what keeps things personal. My design, my screenprinting and my painting are often grimy and rough taking their feel from peeling paint, rusty chains, abandoned vehicles, naked tree branches in the wintertime, porn mags and old signage." Annica lives and works in an industrial area of Brooklyn, NY. Her works can be seen at www.dirtybandits.com. Enjoy her visual interpretation of “OFF THE WALL” on the following pages.
